(l.) Sinead Ni Chadhain (Postdoctoral Associate, Gerben Zylstra's lab), explains her research to Rep. Holt and Nell Haughton (Congressional Aide). Work in this lab focuses on microbiology, genetics and biochemistry of the degradation of hydrocarbons.

(far right) Philip Furmanski in the biotechnology teaching lab explains Rutgers' emphasis on research that connects food and health and that Rutgers is setting the standard for providing research-based knowledge in support of the nutraceuticals industry. Listening are (l. to r.) Rep. Holt , Richard L. McCormick, Gerben Zylstra (Director, Biotechnology Center for Agriculture and the Environment), and Jerry Kukor (Acting Dean, Research and Graduate Programs, Cook College). They are standing in the biotechnology teaching laboratory, which is furnished with state-of-the-art equipment funded by the National Science Foundation, the University and the state.

Michael Murillo (former biotechnology student, currently Biorobotics Facility Manager) demonstrates robotic high throughput equipment as Jerry Kukor and Rep. Holt look on. Training in this laboratory is preparing undergraduate biotechnology majors to enter the field with knowledge of the theory, use and application of the latest equipment used in the field.
